Dr. Richard L. “Dick” Griffin was raised in West Frankfort and is a graduate of Frankfort Community High School. He received his Bachelors degree from Howard Payne University in Brownwood, TX, and returned to Southern Illinois following graduation. During the next 10 years he managed several horse farms in Illinois and New York. During that time he also obtained his Masters degree in Animal Science from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He then attended the University Of Illinois College Of Veterinary Medicine, and graduated in 1997.

From 1997 through 2014, Dick was an associate veterinarian at an equine hospital in central Kentucky. The hospital is a modern surgical and outpatient facility that treated an average of 15,000-20,000 horses a year. While there, Dr. Griffin saw a wide variety of cases and has extensive experience in reproduction, internal medicine, dentistry, emergency and critical care, surgery, lameness diagnosis and treatment, and general ambulatory practice.

Dr. Griffin enjoys living and practicing equine veterinary medicine in Southern Illinois.
